This project is part of the Climate Network Lanark Compost Working Group and is also part of the work of ONfungi to discover the potential of fungi in soil to address the climate emergency.
If you currently compost at home we don't want to divert leaves that you are already putting to good use. If you are not actively composting we would love to have your leaves.
Directing your leaves to us has its benefits
- you can get rid of your leaves/bags as you collect them
- you do not have to wait for the municipal pickup dates
- it is a .5 km drive from the roundabout to us rather than 10km to Howie Road Depot.
- we are willing to do local pick up of bagged leaves in quantities of 20+ bags
- we are able to offer flexible drop-off times
- we will also accept un-bagged trailer loads of leaves
What to Include/Exclude
- Tree leaves are our raw material and our priority. In previous years we accepted limited amounts of garden waste but we would prefer that you put your garden waste to the curb for municipal pickup. To prepare the leaves used in our process we chop them with a lawnmower. It is important and crucial for the safety of our team of volunteers that non organic material such as stones, glass, wire and asphalt not be included in the bagged leaves. Wood material (twigs, branches) must be smaller than your baby finger. If you use Roundup or other chemicals, please do not bring this affected material to us.
*** NOTE : We have reached quota and are no longer accepting leaves ***
- Contact Scott @ 613.897.8838, send an email to compostcomposers@gmail.com or leave us a message on our website on the contact page to arrange a time to ensure that someone will be there.
- Leaves may be dropped off until November 24th, 2023
- We are located at: 4925 March Road (just east of the roundabout)
